Who decorates the bears?
Artists from around the region decorate, adorn, exaggerate,
and paint larger-than-life-size bears. Clarion County A
Beary Good Place is a hands-on, touchable art project,
proving that art doesn’t have to be "serious" to be good –
it just has to be fun. The artists submit design proposals
for review by the Clarion Bears Committee. Sponsors are
invited to graze through selected designs and choose the
artist and design of their choice.
Artists use the bears as their canvas to express their
vision of Clarion County’s unique history and local culture.
Then the decorated bears on display will promote economic
growth and tourism among our communities.”

After attending an artist workshop session, on how to design
and paint a bear & the products to use, Ruth decided to
submit a few designs. She submitted a patriotic style bear
in honor of her hometown and America. “Since 9/11 our
country has changed and become more patriotic. This reborn
patriotism inspired me to choose the patriotic theme as a
reminder to our community of that patriotism.” Her grandson,
16-year-old Cameron Ashbaugh, helped her paint the bear. “We
spent many hours together working on it and we both truly
enjoyed it,” Ruth said.
